The Story Behind the Thread
AERA ATÈLIER is my love letter to craftsmanship, femininity, and the art of clothing made with intention.
Rooted in Scandinavian simplicity and British refinement, each piece is designed in Norway, handcrafted in the UK, and created to celebrate the strength, softness, and individuality of women.
AERA ATÈLIER began long before the brand existed — in the quiet, formative moments of Hennie’s childhood. Growing up in a creative family surrounded by textiles, interiors, and pattern, her earliest and most cherished memories were shaped in her grandfather’s atelier. The sound of scissors through cloth, the order of his workroom, and the intimacy of hand-finished details became the foundation of her fascination with craftsmanship.
Much of her aesthetic sensitivity came from summers spent travelling through Europe with her grandparents, especially in the South of France. Early memories of Nice and the iconic Negresco, the elegance of Monaco, and the effortless sophistication of St. Tropez left a lasting imprint. It was there that she first observed how clothing could express character, presence, and emotion — a spark that later blossomed into a deep love for French design houses, natural fabrics, and timeless silhouettes.
In her early twenties, Hennie followed another long-standing pull: London. With a suitcase and one month’s savings, she moved to the city that had always felt like home in spirit. She soon found her place on King’s Road in Chelsea, working with high-end interiors and premium textiles. London shaped her understanding of craftsmanship, taught her the discipline of structure and quality, and introduced her to a world where heritage and modernity coexist. Over the years, she transitioned into premium brand marketing, while continuing to create bespoke dresses as a freelance designer — a constant thread throughout her life.
Design has always been her grounding force, regardless of location, role, or circumstance. Hennie studied art and fashion history, pattern making, and design, developing a meticulous eye for construction, proportion, and the emotional resonance of clothing. Her early freelance work — bespoke evening and wedding gowns — reinforced her belief that true beauty lives in detail, and that garments should carry memory.
Today, AERA ATÈLIER is a founder-led, one-woman studio supported by a small circle of carefully selected luxury partners in London. Each piece is developed and designed by Hennie herself, using natural fabrics, couture-inspired construction, and traditional techniques such as embroidery, pleating, and fabric manipulation. Garments are created in small, thoughtful drops, each numbered and made with intention.
Her design philosophy blends the clarity of Scandinavia, the quiet elegance of Britain, and the emotional heritage of France. The result is clothing that feels both grounded and elevated — soft yet structured, feminine yet strong, nostalgic yet modern.
AERA ATÈLIER is created for women standing at meaningful moments in their lives — returning to themselves after change, stepping into new chapters, or seeking garments that reflect their inner strength with quiet confidence.
“I wanted to create clothing that feels like memory —
something to be worn, cherished, and kept.”
Through craftsmanship, storytelling, and care, Hennie hopes AERA ATÈLIER becomes not just a label, but a bridge between past and present — honoring heritage, elevating modern craft, and reminding women that their story is worth wearing.
